Working to improve Eglin Parkway

Construction begins in April 2012

Project Map

Eglin Parkway is a major north-south thoroughfare that connects U.S. 98 in Okaloosa County to Eglin AFB. It includes two bridges, the Cinco Bayou and the Garnier Bayou bridges, and travels through the City of Ft. Walton Beach and the Town of Shalimar.

Over time, the asphalt pavement of a roadway will crack and weather. When this happens, the roadway needs to be resurfaced in order to protect the roadbed and extend the life of the roadway.

Resurfacing projects, such as the one underway on Eglin Parkway, are scheduled at regular intervals to grind away the existing pavement and apply multiple new, fresh layers of asphalt. The work will result in a safer, smoother riding surface and protect the roadway from deterioration.

In addition to milling and resurfacing the pavement this construction project also includes:

The project is currently slated for completion in late 2013.

Potential Traffic Impacts

Drivers may experience increased traffic congestion during this construction project. In an effort to minimize potential travel delays, FDOT will limit lane closures for milling and resurfacing work to nighttime hours, 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Access to private property will be maintained at all times.

The speed limit in the Eglin Parkway work zone will be reduced to 30 mph.
